Barnet Council is inviting the community to have their say on the Golders Green Wayfinding and Culture & Community Action Plans
The council has started a Creative Placemaking project to work with the local community to help us identify and celebrate Golders Green’s cultural diversity, build local pride, and encourage more people to visit the town centre.
Background
Golders Green is designated as a ‘Main Town Centre’ and in 2020 the Council adopted the Golders Green Town Centre Strategy, which was developed alongside the community.
In June 2022 Barnet Council appointed Jan Kattein Architects to develop Culture & Community and Wayfinding Action Plans, alongside the delivery of a number of interventions across the town centre.
The Action Plans aim to celebrate local heritage, nurture the local context, ensure cultural activation and inspire site-specific response to future projects, some of which will be delivered in 2023/4.
During 2022, the council undertook a number of public engagement activities, workshops and conversations with members of the local community to help inform and develop the different components of the proposals. This information was captured and has been translated into Action Plans to celebrate culture within Golders Green, and to support how you use and navigate around the town centre.
Your views are important to the council
It is essential that placemaking in Golders Green is informed by local people who live, shop, study, work or run businesses within the local area. The council encourages anyone with an interest in the town centre to provide their input. In particular, the council wants to hear from community and cultural organisations, local residents, businesses and all other interested parties.
